The project involves the construction of new build, four bedroom, detached house slap-bang on the seafront in the East Kent town of Deal. The site is created by the severance of part of the garden and driveway to an existing house. Extreme care has been taken in the design to ensure that it does not unduly interrupt daylight, sunlight and sea views to the surrounding properties. A ‘portico’ to the front of the building acts to provide not only privacy and shelter to a double height seaward facing balcony, but also scale and proportion to the street scene, and mediation between two neighbouring properties of diametrically opposing architectural styles.
